10 Year Anniversary/Farewell Party

A few years ago, as we started to see the light at the end of the residency tunnel, Kealan and I started dreaming up a party where we could gather our favorite people to celebrate the gauntlet we’d been through. We realized that he was graduating the same year that we’d be celebrating our ten-year-anniversary, and we knew we’d likely be moving out-of-state the same month… so the anniversary/farewell party was born :)

We hired ADP associate Lauren to document the day because I really do mean it when I say she’s the best :) We arrived early for a few family photos, but it was a thousand degrees so we snapped a few and called it a day!

At this point the DJ started playing so we completely lost Bella to the music ;)

Having industry friends is the greatest because I gave Becky at RAM Floral and Courtney at Courtney Space Events some vague commentary on what I was hoping for and they executed it SO PERFECTLY.

Sent our people home with photos of themselves and asked them to send us home with Instax prints of their faces in exchange!

Hi associate Bridget and husband :)

Alex and Ruby having the same crinkle smile in this and the next photo brings me great joy.

The party also happened to be on my birthday, and the day before best-friend-Becca’s birthday, and Kealan surprised us with a cake!

Did a li’l first dance situation that was promptly interrupted by a child’s request. Real life parenting in action ;)

Bella got deeply committed to this prop I don’t remember purchasing for our retired photobooth (that we sometimes drag out for family parties).

100% here for it.

One of my clients’ bridesmaids gifted them a visit from a Mister Softee truck at their reception and I have not stopped thinking about it since. So we closed out the night with Mister Softee!

Family Session \\ Lauren Allmond Photography

We’d adopt her if we could, but her daughter would probably be upset about it ;) So instead, we asked Lauren to take our family photos again. WE LOVE THEM.

Couch is getting a little more crowded these days, in the best possible way.

We tried putting Riley’s hair into a little palm tree ponytail last week, and she looked like a tiny sumo wrestler. We’ll hold off on that for another few months ;)

My philosophy when shooting family sessions is to let your kids be kids, because we’re capturing the feeling of this season of life, not the perfect-child, Instagram version. We clearly keep the same philosophy when having our own photos done, because my girl can’t be tamed ;)

We did work really hard for this shot though. Howling was involved.

We probably have at least three more years before Addie’s snack cup isn’t a prominent figure in our photos. That’s okay too :)

Photos like this prove to me that we’re raising her right. Dance it out, girl.

Lauren, you are the best of the best and perfectly time-capsuled this season for us. We love you so.

Riley Elise \\ Fresh 48

On March 20, two days before her due date and exactly 25 months after her sister was born, we welcomed Riley Elise into our family! While Addie took her sweet time coming to meet us (two weeks late and almost 36 hours after I was admitted to the hospital), our Riley girl zoomed into our lives only three hours after we arrived. My absolute favorite labor nurse from Addie’s delivery happened to be working while I was laboring with Riley and was the one to coach me through. God’s timing was so good.

My wonderful friend and one of our life-tographers at Aaren Lee Photography came to visit us through a snowstorm and blessed us with the photos below. I can’t wait to return the favor in just a few short months :)

Our little lady came to meet Riley before Aaren left and my heart about burst with how big she looked and how much I had missed her while in the hospital.

Everyone’s been asking how Addie’s been doing with the new role of big sister. The answer is: SO WELL. She had a few tough days right when we came home but overall has been so good about sharing (both toys and Mama’s lap) and helping burp/rock/kiss the baby. I’m so proud of her.

Family Session \\ Lauren Allmond Photography

If I photographed your wedding this year, there’s a 50% chance you also got photographed by one of my FAVORITE photographers, Lauren, of Lauren Allmond Photography. She is crazy talented and a delight to shoot with and I’m tickled every time I get to snatch her up to second shoot with me. This year we asked her to take our own family portraits and I just love them so.

That headboard and those nightstands were handmade by Kealan himself! Casual carpenter.

ps – Lauren’s husband Brandon is also a woodworker, but not so casually. His online shop is here! We run into him all the time at craft shows and I hope he doesn’t think we just follow him around the city (but maybe we do).

Addie needed some space for herself. Clearly.

Took a little run over to Penn Treaty Park!

Addie was expiring and I packed zero snacks like an amateur mom, so I bribed her with a stick. It worked.

Family Session \\ Autumn Kern Photography

Two years ago, we brought Autumn up from Gettysburg for our two-year anniversary session. This year, after we added Addie to the mix, we thought it was high time to bring her back… this time from Lancaster! You can even see photos from our last session on the gallery wall behind us :)

Addie’s only worn shoes three times in her life so far, and her reaction to them is always the same.

Just have to brag on Kealan for a second – he made our headboard and nightstands!!

Off to Liberty Lands!

Not pictured: our friends whooping and hollering and key jingling to get baby and dog baby to look up.

Colby’s side-tongue look gets me every time.

Autumn, thank you SO much. Can’t wait to meet your little lady baby :)
